The Chair has been at the forefront of conducting innovative research projects that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 15 (Life on Land), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Below is an overview of significant research projects completed during the reporting period, as well as ongoing postdoctoral research efforts.
Accomplished Research Projects
-
Providing a Precise and Easy Method for Detecting Fraud in Meat Products
- Principal Investigator: A.A. Moosavi-Movahedi
- Collaborators: Dr. Sh. Ariaeenejad and Co-workers
- Completion Date: 2018
- Supported by: National Institute for Medical Research Development (NIMD)
- Institution: Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, University of Tehran
This project aimed to develop a diagnostic method for detecting fraud in meat products, ensuring food safety and compliance with industry standards. The project, financially supported by NIMD, resulted in the creation of a diagnostic kit that provides a simple and precise solution for identifying fraudulent practices in the food industry. This research contributes to SDG 16 by promoting transparency and justice in food production.

Unbalanced Free Radicals Created by the Effect of Industrial Products on Proteins
- Principal Investigator: A.A. Moosavi-Movahedi
- Collaborator: L. Saso
- Completion Date: 2020
- Supported by: International Scientific Studies and Collaboration (CISSC), Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology in Iran
- Institutions: Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, University of Tehran, and Sapienza University of Rome, Italy
This international collaboration focused on the harmful effects of industrial products on proteins through the creation of unbalanced free radicals. The project advanced the understanding of oxidative stress and its implications on human health, contributing to SDG 3 by addressing challenges related to industrial pollution and its impact on well-being.
-
Integrated Sensing and Removal of Diabetic Toxic Amyloid Intermediates System
- Principal Investigator: A.A. Moosavi-Movahedi
- Completion Date: 2020
- Supported by: National Institute for Medical Research Development (NIMAD)
- Institution: Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, University of Tehran
This project aimed at designing and manufacturing a system to detect and eliminate toxic amyloid intermediates related to diabetes. The results contribute to the prevention of diabetic complications, thereby supporting SDG 3 (Good Health) by addressing a critical global health issue. The system serves as both a screening tool and a preventative measure, offering new hope for patients with diabetes.
